@MrTheHydea Here's what I know. Greg Lake formed the band in 1969, their first album "in the court of the crimson king" was a smash hit. Greg Lake plays guitar and of course provides the beautiful vocals. After one album Greg Lake left the band to form the super group Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Maybe King Crimson had some good music after that but without Lake there's no way it could be the same. I'm a huge RUSH, Pink Floyd, Genesis fan. Greg Lake has one of the most incredible voices in history.

The first timer I heard this record was 1969,,, I was 17, smokin great herb... God please give my youth back to me..

If you do some research I think you will find that Greg Lake also handled the vocals on their second album "In the Wake of Poseidon". One thing is clear to me, I wholeheartedly agree with Loobs666 the sound made by the Mellotron is fucking awesome! It gives the music this dreamy background. I can't find the words to describe it.

Excellent version! And Greg's incredible voice...

@48Sage - EDIT: Lake was already with ELP when he helped with the recording of In The Wake Of Poseidon.

@U2RUSHFAN - 'Greg Lake plays guitar and of course provides the beautiful vocals'
Greg was the bass player for KC, however, he is seen playing his acoustic on a piece or two. Greg also contributed to their second album before leaving for ELP. Actually Greg did not form KC. Fripp asked Greg to join to be their bass player.
Now for my opinion. Not only was ITCOTKC a "smash hit", it is the most influential album in rock history. (-:

I am confused. Robert Fripp was playing guitar during the first bridge. In the studio recording, it sounded like a clavinet. Which instrument was that in the studio recording?
-
Bill became the percussionist for K.C. after Yes(not just a short period either) and it looks as though he became the long sitting percussionist by virtue of the number of albums he shows up on with Mr. Fripp and company.

@porksnipper ... after a brief stint with Yes, Bill Bruford was on drums for awhile too.

KILLER version!
The lyrics are different for this recording. Can anyone tell me what album this is FROM? I prefer this arrangement. It's awesome.
