The Brooklyn Park Crime Prevention Association fundraiser is 4-8 p.m. tomorrow at the Elks Lodge no. 44 in Brooklyn Park. Tickets costs $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under and include a spaghetti dinner. Karaoke begins at 8 p.m. and there will also be a silent auction. Presale tickets for the fundraiser are available at the door.
Students at Maple Grove's Weaver Lake Elementary released monarch butterflies at the end of September. As a certified monarch way station the school has a robust monarch habitat and teaches students about the science of the monarch. This year the University of Minnesota provided more than 800 eggs and caterpillars to the school for students to study, raise and release. The District 279 building is a science, math and technology school that draws in students from around the district.
The Heart of Robbinsdale Community Foundation's Oktoberfest is 3-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Robbinsdale Plaza. Admission is free and family activities, food and entertainment will be featured. The Wendinger Band will play 7-11 p.m.
The Cooper High School and Robbinsdale Middle School swim team pancake breakfast is 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Applebee's at 42nd and Winnetka in New Hope. Tickets cost $5 in advance and $6 at the door.
A week ago the Brooklyn Park community responded to hate crimes that happened Sept. 23. The city held a press conference prior to the Rally Against Racism event put on by residents at the Zanewood Community Center.
