I grew up watching this movie and this was always one of my favorite parts. I always loved Jean Louisa Kellys voice. So I made this nice little video! :)
I know what you mean but it would be inappropriate for them to clap during auditions. The judges aren't supposed to give the person any ideas and he almost complimented her too much for an audition. You can tell he is holding back from saying how he feels about the audition and wants to say more but that wouldnt be proper
This movie does not get enough credit. Maybe it's just me, but this is one of the most bittersweet tales ever told. Teachers (good ones) don't realize sometimes how much they help us become what we are! Mr. Holland got lucky.
If you're reading this and there is a particular teacher that has really helped and/or influenced you, please tell him/her about it and thank them.
I grew up watching this movie, too!! I could almost recite the whole movie. She's wonderful as an actor and a singer. Wonder why I haven't see her more often on the screen?
@wicaco Its not usually standard practice for directors to clap after an audition. It's professional to stay very neutral in your response. As to not sway a performer into thinking one way or the other about if they will be cast or not.
Also, does anyone else think Mr. Holland and the other two teachers could stand to have been a little more enthusiastic? "You were very, very good..." Not even a little applause?
I saw this movie when I was a little kid with my late father, and watching it again now I was surprised to find that she's Kim Warner from Yes Dear! She's so different here... What an underrated actress.

@wicaco I know what you mean. But i think maybe the idea is they are so stunned by her and her audition that they could barely speak. Lol.
