"You Look Familiar"
A new CD from Mary Hopkin and Morgan Visconti release date 25/10/2010
http://www.maryhopkin.com

Mary Hopkin duets with Max Boyce on the lovely song The water is wide, this is from his own show Max Boyce 1983
The song was orginally Waly, Waly, but in the 19th century came to be known as The Water is Wide. The song was published in 1724. O Waly, Waly is sometimes reported to be part of a longer ballad, Lord Jamie Douglas. However, Douglas was first published by Herd (1776) where it states it is to be sung to the tune of Waly, Waly, so it is fairly certain that Waly, Waly is the earlier tune.

  • you have to turn your volume way up to hear it.

  • @winggoddess this was recorded on VHS tape in the early 80's, (played over and over again to within an inch of its life) then transferred to the computer, then uploaded to youtube, turning your volume up isn't much to ask for when all's said and done...

  • ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN GET IN TOUCH WITH HER?

  • There is so many great versions of this song, Seekers, Hayley Westenra, others and I love them all but this one always comes back to me....

  • @richpat i wasn't complaining. i was just letting people know to turn up their volume, so they don't come here and think there is no sound, or that there is just static like that person down below did.

  • Whatever happened to Max Boycegraves? There was more to him than this, he used to perform footstomping folk songs, stomping about stage with a gigantic leek, wearing a red & white bar (rugby) scarf. "I was there" was his catchphrase

I would have liked to have seen the Ruth Madoc clip, pre Hi De Hi, presumably

  • Still a lovely lady!

  • Beautiful... what can I say.. just love that voice Max has ... and love his humor too... This is one of my fav songs .. so I just enjoyed my stay in here... thank you for sharing... ;O)
