Yes, it is deception and our own pride that keeps us from God. We think there is something we can do to free us from our sin nature when in fact Jesus has done it all and we just need to accept His atonement and forgiveness. So many are not wanting to tell or believe the simple truth of this "good news" in todays world. This is not only sad but down right tragic!

Well, then, stake your eternity on your faith, for that is what you have. You believe in a thing that you have no certainty of, yet you believe it anyway. You better be right because the penalty for failure is catastrophic, and unending. Now im sure you will comment back with something like "don't worry about me im positive about this", but you're not because without absolute knowledge you cannot be.

I know this guy's a fictional character, but he tells her that he wants a real chaplain that believes in a real god and a real hell. In effect, he's going to waste his last days alive racked with guilt by a past action that cannot be changed, seeking forgiveness from a god that does not exist. What a complete waste of time...he didn't need any forgiveness from anyone. In all likelihood, there is no such place as hell, and when he dies--that's it.
