Yes, it is deception and our own pride that keeps us from God. We think there is something we can do to free us from our sin nature when in fact Jesus has done it all and we just need to accept His atonement and forgiveness. What I needed to learn from this was the Reiko Aylesworth is near the top of the list of girls I'd like to spend a night with.

What we need to learn from this, is that the Gospel has eternal value and its message should always be very clear! People need salvation from sins and Jesus died for their sins! Softening the Gospel, or talking about some syncretistic religion is not going to help the people.
