They had some really interesting paint themes for the Bi-Centennial, I recall KYW had a few cars designated with their "Butterfly" logo, and they also had a few trains for the Phillie's games with the Phillie's logo. Some cars were painted a pink, maroon and orange color. The old Locust-Camden Bridge cars were added in 1975 to the existing fleet, they rode much quieter and seemed faster than the other older cars. At one time they were dubbed the "Buck Rogers cars" Dam nice post, thanks

I had read that up till 1976, the entire fleet was so well maintained they were the oldest cars of there vintage still in use in America. I also read that during the 4th of July in 1976, a bad rain storm flooded a section of subway in North Philly, and several trains ran through the flooded section of track, and then problems began from there on in with the fleet.

Man, I remember riding these old cars from the time I was able to walk! My Grandfather and my Dad would take me on Saturday excursions all over the city. Sometimes on the Elevated, or one of the trolleys. I recall riding the PATCO when it first opened in 1974. These old shots of the Broad Street subway bring back memories for me in the mid to late seventies. I recall for the Bi-centennial they painted the old Camden bridge cars with red, white and blue stripes!

2:05 : I was on that trip.
I believe a set of cars still exists. Perhaps SEPTA may
run another trip? Some new digital transfers would be great.
Hard to find the old Broad Street line cars in operation.
