After getting sucked into Nexus: The Jupiter Incident for awhile I started to wonder if the Nexus style of ship handling can be adapted into Freelancer. Freelancer capital ships tend to lack a feeling of weight. Nexus did a terrific job of presenting this for its large ships and well, learn from the best right?

This video isn't terribly interesting to watch, no explosions or anything. It is just a Bretonian (Liberty is overdone) Battleship undocking, doing a short circuit, then docking again. The point is to demonstrate the way the capitals handle, which is a near direct translation of the handling of capitals in Nexus.

I don't know if anything will come of this, it was really just a fun experiment to make capitals feel heavy. Like you are carrying that weight around. This was little project was based on 88 Flak's RC131.

Those interested in using the engine effect, see this post:

  • how do you make the engine FX completely turn off? i have been posting about how to do that for years and no one seemed to know.

  • @sona11111111

That's done entirely in the ALE effect. I completely rewrote the Bretonian Battleship engine ALE for this project.

  • @ThinBear4 Assign turn left, turn right, pitch up and pitch down to the 4,5,6 and 8 keys on the number pad. Then after that enter turret view and press the space bar button. Try to keep the mouse focused on one point while controlling the ship with 4,5,6 and 8.

This is possible in the Crossfire mod

  • @boundtodie yes they ARE! you dont have air to slow you down so you have bigger direction change time you morron! it is basic newton physycks of 8-9 grade!

  • Before reading the description I thought of asking you if you put Freelancer on the Nexus engine =D

    Awesome work, man.

  • @Trueflights Nope. Look closely. It's definitely turret view of this capital ship. The camera is focused on the capship at all times and it perfectly responds to cursor movement, sometimes taking quick turns and sudden accelerations (whereas in camera-ship solution the "camera" would be operated by ship's movement controls, for example WSAD).

So it's camera view. And it's curious how he controls the camera and ship's rotation at the same time.

  • @Trueflights or not , watching it again, I guess it isn't. sorry.
