The Korg Poly-61 is a 6-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer. It was the successor of the classic Korg Polysix. It has 2 oscillators per voice and digital parameter access - like the Poly-800, which came later. The Poly-61 has DCO's and analog 12 dB/okt. filters for every voice (unlike the Poly-800, which has a single 24 dB filter for all voices). DCO 1 has PWM. There is only one ADSR envelope for VCF and VCA.

It also has CHORD MEMORY and an ARPGEGGIATOR - the same as featured on the Polysix.

Poly-61 has snappier / faster envelopes than the Poly-800. The Poly-61 can produce some great and usable sounds, it has a typical sound character. It has something like an "eighties lofi" aura, that is charming. I simply like this synth...

You can make good music with it, if you know how to program and use it.

The battery inside is the same type as in Korg Polysix and tends to leak - replace it as soon as you can.

The original Poly-61 came without MIDI. Later models had MIDI built in. Finally, the rare Poly-61M was released, which had MIDI as standard.

This video shows what a Poly-61 is capable of. I recorded the sounds without any additional effects or eq.

  • @OldAnalogSynth danke :-)

  • what do you mean with "filters for every voice (unlike the Poly-800, which has a single 24 dB filter for all voices)"???????

Is the filter of the poly-800 only affecting 1 out of it's 8 voices, that is, completely useless and disturbing?

    Thanks.

  • @donpirla the Poly-61 is six voice polyphonic. That means, that every of the 6 voices has its own filter, and 2 oscillators. On the Poly-800 all 8 voices run through 1 single filter. This structure is unusual on a polyphonic synth.

  • quick question: are you able to edit/automate the changing of all the progammable options that are available digitally on the synth over midi aswell? ie: resonance, cutoff, waveform selection? etc?

  • @lvrsnvy I thought that until you put the hold button on and play some pads, then it really comes alive and to be honest sounds pretty close to this demo.

  • Where can i find one of these? Amazing!

  • @7:40 ray lynch mustve used this on celestial soda pop

  • Amazing ! Hey does anyone know the answer to this question? Back in the 1980s someone who worked at one of the synthesizer companies (could've been Korg, but perhaps Roland, or Yamaha) etc, published a series of papers on music synthesis. However this lead to a dispute with his employer as he gave away too much information they considered proprietary. Apparently this series of papers was quite famous and well known. Does anyone know the name of the author and can refer me to the papers? Thanks.

  • poly 800 sucks sooooo much ass....never get a poly 800

  • Can anyone tell me how to use this???
