The flooding began in December 2010, primarily in the state of Queensland and its capital city, Brisbane. The floods have since forced the evacuation of thousands of people from towns and cities. More than 50 towns and over 200,000 people have been affected. Damage initially was estimated at around A$1bn (£633m) and the estimate of lost revenue from Australia's GDP is about A$13 billion. Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser said it was not possible to put a figure on the damage; "other than to say the damage bill is going to start with a 'b' and not an 'm'".
Three-quarters of the state of Queensland has been declared a disaster zone - an area larger than Texas and California combined. The 2010-2011 floods have killed at least 30 and the death toll is expected to rise.

My heart goes out to all those affected by the floods, especially families of lost ones. May god bless Australia.
