Republicans can't get enough big government - The Rachel Maddow Show (June 1st, 2011)

Does small government conservatism even exist anymore in the Republican mainstream? In today's big government conservative rundown, Rachel Maddow shows us how Republicans in several states want to ban most popular contraceptives (since creating unwanted children will do so much to curb the number of abortions), how Senator Rand Paul wants to send people to prison for attending any political speech which promotes the overthrow of the government (like, for example, a Sharron Angle speech), and how Rick Scott signed a bill which forces anyone who wants state benefits to undergo drug testing at the expense of the Florida government. Can you smell the hypocrisy in the air?

Republicans usually hate big government when it comes to having the government keep an eye on corporations that exploit the regulations, toss their workers under the bus, and want to provide them nothing more than minimum salaries and benefits (preferable no benefits)

If Republicans really had their way you would be making 3 dollars an hour, have no benefits and they would turn America into another China or Vietnam. They truly are Communist underneath all that bullshit about God and Country.

The abortion issue is a red herring as far as I'm concerned, as I never intend to have children (Why would I want to bring them into a shithole like this world? I'm a MAN, by the way, not a woman.) What irritates me is that Republicans keep preening that they are for "smaller government". But they won't be satisfied to simply outlaw abortion. They'll also want to micromanage a pregnant woman's diet, alcohol, and tobacco consumption ultimately, too. Count on it. Screw that.

Attempting to outlaw contraception is a joke and it`s going to lose the GOP the election in 2012, and rightly so.

Most of us cannot pray our (natural) sexual urges away , and do not feel that sex is solely for pro-creation. The stats clearly show that over 90% of women use, or have used some form of contraception. It shows how out of touch these Republican religious fanatics really are.

Maddow is a child. It isn't a desire for big government to protect the basic human rights of a child. We somehow lost our way in this country and allowed SCOTUS to rule that, hey, ya know that life and liberty stuff?  Well, it doesn't apply to fetuses. They don't get the guaranteed God-given rights of life and liberty!

Maddow knows there are certain things government MUST do, but she can't help but pretend she's clueless on this topic.
