The best way to fix this is simply ride a Japanese or German bike. There are no junk crankshafts there. Harley executives and chief engineers have not had their day in bankruptcy court, but this crap is a shortcut to get there.
so at the conclusion of all this, would this tend to support that the newer style cranks aren't as "poorly constructed" or as "inferior" as some shops try to state ?
In the end, the only way to determine if your crank is faulty is to remove and check it, which is a costly and time intensive process, most average mechanics wouldn't do. So if the engine is torn down for some purpose, usually a couple $k worth of work...why not put in a $1200 S&S / Jims crank while you're at it ?
As an engine builder back in the 70's, when asian parts showed up on the shelf, we had problems with truing wheels, found it to be the same off-center counter-bores.
There after we only used the Motor Co's product or S&S (George was Great).
