A new movie about the ukulele, The Jumping Flea-Tales of the Modern Ukulele, explores the history, players, and builders of the modern uke. The little 4 stringed ukulele isn't considered a toy anymore, but a serious musical instrument! Available on DVD.

  • Thanks for the encouragement. The Hawaiian singer at the end is the

    wonderful Auntie Gerry.

  • I'm sure this is gonna have lots of great stuff in it , but ....

Hopefully in the final edit they'll ease up on the "it used to be a toy but now it's a SERIOUS instrument"

because there's ALWAYS been great players, and even more

the ukulele is as serious as you WANT it to be!

  • We who play the ukulele DO take it seriously, however there were millions of plastic ukes sold via Arthur Godfrey that non players considered a 'toy'. Thats the stereotype we've addressed. Having grown up in Hawaii in the 40's, 50's, and 60's, and played uke and other stringed instruments for over 40 years, and build ukuleles, I know from

whence I speak,, eh wa, bra? Get the DVD, available at Amazon.com, or

  • @howbah How dare they call it a toy. I must have a very expensive toy. Just like the word Aloha They think they know the Word but in order to know the word you have to LIVE IT. if u treat it like a toy than you play it like a toy.

Sorry but I know this an old post but I just had to say my peace.

  • I got a plastic uke for xmas over 60 years ago. Aloha brand, with red, green. blue and yellow strings. The strings are still fine, and the uke has better tone and volume than many prettier wooden ukes I've tried. A design masterpiece by Mario Macaferri i believe.

  • Howzit Papa!

  • You might want to check your spelling on the Hawaiian words.

  • Keep them coming. Specially the Hawaiian singing inthe last part of the video.
