ACT Light Rail received TV coverage on WIN News - Canberra on Friday September 21, 2007.
In this news article ACT Light Rail convener Damien Haas throws down the Gauntlet to Minister Hargreaves to properly debate Light Rail with the group at a time of his choosing.
It is obvious that Minister Hargreaves has no concept of what a Light Rail network will actually cost as plucks figures out of the air (a figure greater than that given previous government reports) and equates that figure to the yearly running costs of several Territorial portfolios. It must be noted that an entire network will never be implemented as a single project in any single year. It is likely to be a series of incremental projects spread of a number of years, each phase upgrading the network.
Light Rail should be considered be a long term infrastructure investment for the Territory no different to many other infrastructure items we all take for granted on a daily basis (such as roads, power, water reticulation, gas, sewerage, telecommunications, schools, hospitals just to name some of the most obvious).
