On our 3 week journey to Japan, we ended up staying in a house we rented from VRBO.com. We rented this place hoping to try and see what traditional Japanese style homes are like. We did manage to experience that. This house was a 2 story with not much room, but was set up in a way that promotes the efficient use of space.

Personally, I would prefer a home like this over most of the ones in North America. Call it personal taste, but I've lived in apartments and mansions from a few hundred Sq.ft. to over 10,000 sq.ft.

I can say with certainty that I would love a small home like this that makes such efficient use of space.

  • Face is not needed .

  • @kaisermuto Compare and contrast... compare the beauty of the house and contrast with the ugliness of my face... :)

  • Do you think buying or renting a house would be cheaper in Hokkaido or Saitama, or is that too open ended a question to answer?

  • @AdiF50Ronaldo7 Fairly open ended. I'm not sure what the housing market is like in those regions. I've only looked at homes in Nishitokyo. Since that is where I stayed most of my time in Japan, wasn't hard to see houses for sale on real-estate agent windows. I think the question of rent or buy would apply to almost any market and it depends on what your personal needs, goals in life and ability to spend are.

  • always wondered what a typical Japanese house looked like.i always heard that the Japanese homes are very tiny compared to american homes cause space is so limited

  • @mikeman42986 Indeed they are smaller in general, and population density has a lot to do with it, however, they make much more efficient use of their space. I'd almost rather live in a home like the one in this video than the much bigger house I'm currently in. I have lived in a very large house at one point in my life and the empty space was insane. You had to buy tons of furniture just to fill it.

  • the vent thing under the table probably has to do with a heater they usually put under the tables in winter time and there is often a blanket like table cloth to keep heat in

  • I always wondered how they stay warm in snowy winters with paper walls sleeping on floors any ideas??

  • if i ever move to japan, i definitely want to live in kyoto
