How High the Moon, with lyrics by Nancy Hamilton and music by Morgan Lewis. This is an original improvisation played by pianist Evan Chow, age 16, on May 9, 2010.
Composed in 1940, this jazz standard was first performed in the Broadway musical "Two for the Show" on the eve of World War II, when a clear moon meant enemy bombers were on the way. The song was first recorded by Benny Goodman and his orchestra on February 7, 1940. Since that time, many other artists have given it their own interpretations.
