  • Obviously, the music of the Cocteau Twins is the closest THING approaching the heavenly and sublime that mere human beings have ever achieved.

  • It's english, only that she plays with her singing so that it isn't clear. I think it's quite brave for an artist to dare abandon the message of his song in order to achieve another goal

  • thanks for this video i really like how you dubbed the "live video" with the CD audio recording instead. It matches or is in perfect sync! good job!

...I watched the original live version of this video as well in youtube, but the audio was such bad quality (not because of the performers but because of bad sound quality) so I turn to your video upload again and again instead when i want to hear this song.

  • @ryanh206 there is also video here on yt with original sound. what you hear in this video is sound mixed from CD imo. But it fits great ;)

  • I can't believe this is live!

    (goth or not)

  • Garlands and Head Over Heals are gothic albums. Even Robin and Liz have called those that way. Songs like Hitertho, and Laughlines are gothic as well. So call it like you want it, ethereal pop, post punk,...they're both inspired by the gothic-darkwave genre. And yes,i agree, thanks to the CTs we know now the ethereal pop and Dreampop.

  • @Sandboge up until about 1990, the only people I ever met who owned CT records were either full-on goths or gothy students (as opposed to indie students). Same goes for DCD who, until they started appearing on Ibiza chillout albums and blockbuster soundtracks were... listened to by mostly goths too

(In the 80s 4AD was a very "goth" label in that sense But then we loved everything from CT to New Order to Crass to Rocky Horror. Music was music.)

  • hey what age is this from?

  • you are quite right.

  • I'm old enough to remember them in the late 80's, there was not a clear concept of gothic or even dreampop. Many bands of the time, or even single songs were just "Dark", not even darkwave, and I remember have seen a "goth" girl in 1992 with a shoulder bag with "Cocteau Twins" painted (in my country there was no such thing as "gothic people" until the late 90's). Many of the first goths listened CT and other 4AD bands that are clearly not gothic by modern classifications; they influenced them.

  • Loved this band for decades!

Awsome guitar sound, beautiful vocal and fresh rythm section.

    Great music!

    Don't box it, play it!

  • I agree! This is not a GOTHIC music! Even "so called" dream pop is not a good description! This music is so deep and emotional. They really defined the principles of modern music! So early!
