This song means so much to so many that I decided to try my hand at translating the lyrics to english. I know that the translation is not exact, but I have attempted to convey my interpretation of the song. I sincerely hope that Sean & Bok approves. • We owe it to our soldiers, no matter what country and what nationality we are of, never to forget the wars they fought in, the sacrifices they made for us. If we forget, we do not deserve peace at all.

I can't even put into words how much I admire the strength, stubbornness and resistance of the South African soldiers who fought in the Border War, without help from the outside. May your spirits live on forever.

  • Thank you so much - I served Jan 1987 -Dec 1988 and spent 6-months in my 2nd year "Op die Kaplyn" serving - This song made me cry and made think of the forgotten heroism. Here I am today living in the USA and asking myself why, but yet I a fiercely proud of my time there.

  • Great song and video...my own son is shipping ofg to south Korea ...couldn't be prouder of him prktecting others from Communist ..

  • @DerrickCole I agree it is not the soldiers fault we go to war we are lucky to have them.

  • It's sad that even South Africa had it's on badly remembered war, and for so long all the songs and memoriums about the Vietnam War.

It's nice to see one of -- doubtless many -- "Forgotten Wars" given the proper tribute.

  • @DerrickCole Bless you you said it best!

  • A story well told, boys left their home and came back men, fighting a war they barely understood as one men once put it, disposable heroes fighting respectable wars

  • @outlaw21actual Guys like Willem Ratte. An exceptional warrior and teacher. The real deal. They should make a movie of his life.

  • Great!

  • from an aussie brave of the brave so much like our vietnam vets.

  • We where there, and some of us still together,as we reminisce.

  • Ek dink ek gaan 'n Goeie, Groot stuk land in Suid Afrika Koop en my Mense begin terug vat Huis toe!
