Georg Friedrich Haas' "In Vain", a monumental work for large chamber ensemble of 24 players, completed in 2000.

Oh, by the way. With works this long, do you guys prefer them in one video, like this, or would you prefer they be broken up into two or three?

  • all this YouTube access to great work is wonderful - BUT, to do the artists, labels and publishers, who struggle mightily to bring the work to life and to the public, at least a modicum of service, please - YouTube should at least require posting links to purchase sites for the full-resolution CDs or DVDs - yeah, all agree, 'exposure' is good, but in the world of professional arts, it's also something of a dirty word: e.g. "Sorry we can't pay you, but you'll get 'exposure'. "

  • Well, there's always google.

  • Well, that's about as unanimous as it gets. Anyway, I just wanted to warn you guys that youtube let me know about a total of 0 of the comments left on this video. I am not getting notification for the *vast majority* of comments I receive, so don't feel slighted if I don't respond to one.

  • Popularity begets more popularity.

  • This is simply beautiful music. Literally and appropriately 'fantastic,' as in 'phantasm.' You provide through the lens of your knowlege and taste some of the best of the newest, and through you many can keep well-informed. I don't know how you do it, where you get all the material, but your profound love and knowledge of this repertoire and the sharing of it is much appreciated.

  • i like it one tube...your channel is awesome! thank you!

  • In one video, of course. Surely this would also be your answer if you were the asked.

Thanks once more for such an excellent music.

  • I also prefer one long video. And thanks very much for making this available. I've been wanting to hear his pieces for a while.

  • My son gets to play this in Toronto this weekend - hoping to get a DVD (new music ensemble). Thanks for posting; I can imagine the visual dimension would be awesome.

  • youtube does create a purchase link IF one exists, which unfortunately I don't think does with this piece. also if the owner of the content has decided that's how they want to handle it. In fact, they have an algorithm that detects waveforms of known licensed content now, so it can happen the moment you upload a video... Not always correctly though...

  • haas is soooooooo amazing i almost faint

    Hell yeah!

    where is the megalike button?
