I tried with my ultra ball, but when that failed I used my great ball instead. It worked, probably luck, combined with the snorlax being down to low HP and being paralyzed.

wow... i only used 2 ultra balls to catch snorlax (though i put it to sleep and it had about 1 health)

I caught him in one great ball too , but the health was 2-3%
What i did was use Dream Eater on him with my level 30 Hypno.
3% health and he was sleeping ... did the trick.
But agreed , this guy here is one lucky motherfucker !
