Nature sounds of nature. The Australian Outback - ancient, mysterious and often breathtakingly beautiful.

Listen to predawn birdsong echoing around Ormiston Gorge, an exhilarating flock of wild Budgerigars, Wedgebills - 'the windchimes of the desert', the cries of Black Cockatoos carrying across the plains, rare desert frogs and, under a full moon, the eerie wail of Dingoes.

  • What is that bird that sounds like when you rub your finger around the edge of a wine glass? Heard very clearly just eight seconds in. I've always wondered.

  • The bird you are refering to is the Pied Butcherbird. It has to be one of the most beautiful and melodic songbirds we have in Australia., All the best, Sarah

  • If you want to hear more of its song, you can hear in on a few of our CDs: 'Spirit of the Outback', 'Australian Songbird virtuosos', 'A Morning in the Australian Bush' and 'Favorite Australian Birdsong'.

    All the best, Sarah

  • I'm from Australia and I hope to go to the outback and relax since I'm from the city

  • Australia is beautiful. I will go there one day and meet a gorgeous Aussie woman :)

  • Beautifully done. I travelled the outback and only stopped because of the tragic accidental death of my partner. I close my eyes and I'm there again, long to be there in reality but alone would be too tough.

  • Mmmmm I Love Birds and them Sounds forever ! They are so sweet always ! I am a Big Birds Lover ! ;)

  • @grail68 I think it's a Butcher Bird.
