"The Towers"
A video about the famous Watts Towers in L.A. California. At the end of the film- The letters "S" and "R" are Simon Rodia's initials. The man who created this wonderful piece of art sculpture.
Each tower contains a slender column consisting of internal steel reinforcements which are tied with wire, wrapped in wire mesh and covered by hand with cement. There are no bolts, rivets or welds in the towers. The tallest of the towers is 99.5 feet.
The walls surrounding the towers are decorated with a wide assortment of materials including ceramic tiles, sea shells, pottery fragments, broken china, glass, mirrors, marble, colorful rocks, and hand-drawn images embedded in cement.
The length of the north and south walls is almost 300 feet combined. Both walls are decorated inside and out.

very beautiful, thanks for letting us see something we might not find otherwise. can you credit this man in your descrption of the piece, because you put credits at the end but it runs for a split second and I never did see who he was.

I rated this earlier when I was able to view and listen to it this morning when I was getting ready for work... but now I am on another IP address and I can vote again. heh. me = computer geek.

Anyway, supercool video and the music matches well. I viewed the video site you mentioned. I can see myself having way too much fun with that stuff in September, when I should be able to dedicate more video-making, and overall creative time.

You goof! that's cheating- but I don't mind... LOL. I will take all the votes I can get on my stuff, well I know most of what I do will never make the most whatever list and that's fine by me. On so many levels, that was one of the most beautiful things that I have ever seen. The contrast between the computer voice and the old footage evokes intense nostalgia. With his bare hands, this man was resolute in his desire to create beauty. One can only imagine what was to come. I could go on forever. The music, the pace, the images, very powerful and well done!

I believe this footage may have been lifted in toto from "The Towers", shot in 1953 by Director William Hale. What's missing here is Hale's original soundtrack -- which is most unfortunate.

I lived about 10 miles from the Watts Towers and sadly I never visited it. After seeing the film, I think it was my loss.

(Film trivia: the towers was featured in an early Denzel Washington movie.)
