I also think that the movie only works if you have seen all or at least most of the episodes beforehand. Would never show it to someone who's already not familiar with Firefly.

@TheDissident77 true however I don't know who he is or how the whole group know him. Although its not necessary it bugs me that I know little to nothing about this guy.

guy on left, if he had paid attention, the back story is given at beginning but in much more creative way. Listen to dvd commentary. I hadn't even known of the series when I saw movie. LIked movie, got it, series does reveal certain character traits, dynamics etc. but nothing too important to enjoy and get whats going on in movie.

@heroesandcons09 - its called, A NEW CHARACTER. Just like the Operative, who wasn't in the series. Amazing how writers do that, write new stuff sometimes.

wasn't a fan of the movie who the fuck was Mr Universe I mean I think I've seen almost every episode of firefly not one episode did they mention Mr Universe

FINALLY watched this film. Only got into firefly 3 months ago then had exams in between middle. Suffice to say mind=blown.

I thought the same thing as the guy on the left when I first saw the movie. Then I decided to give the TV series a shot and it turned out to be awesome. Serenity is now one of my favorite sci fi movies ever made.

Saw the movie before I saw the series; loved it. Went out immediately to find the series; loved it.

I disagree with the guy to the left, I watched this movie without even realizing there was a TV show and I got it. You'd have to be a little slow to not understand the premise, the backstory is unnecessary. I just watched the series and it wasn't necessary to see it, but it was amazing nonetheless.
