On November 13, 2008, CNN's Jane Velez-Mitchell interviewed Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center to discuss the Center's civil lawsuit on behalf of 16 year-old Jordan Gruver.

Jordan, a US citizen of Panamanian and Native American descent, was targeted and brutally beaten by members of the Imperial Klans of America because they thought he was an "illegal spic."

On November 15, the all-white jury ruled in favor of the victim, ordering the Klansmen to pay $2.5 million in damages.

SPLC President Richard Cohen commented after the verdict, "We intend to collect every dime we can on the judgment and do everything within our power to put the Imperial Klans out of business."
