Cold idle on my 1915 fuel injected turbocharged engine with my new exhaust system. I'm using a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler and its VERY quiet. Idle speed is around 800 rpm when cold, as compared to my hot idle (shown in my other video). If you check out my old video from back in March, my old engine with just a dump pipe was not too loud. After building a new engine in May and changing out the cam, the car got MUCH louder, so I fab'ed up this exhaust. Much nicer to drive around now. Specs below:

1915: 69x94
Autolina Aluminum Case
DPR 69mm counterweight crank
CB Unitech HD Rods w/ ARP bolts
Engle 110
Bugpack Lightweight Racing Lifters
Steel Pushrods
CB solid rocker shaft, stock rockers, elephants feet adjusters
Mahle forged P/C
Forged 12lb flywheel
Schadeck 30mm oil pump
Mofoco 042 Heads (40x35.5, Bugpack HD Singles)
CB Hideway Header
KKK K24 Turbo
German Plenum & TB
CB EFI endcastings
Megasquirt-1 v2.2 Extra Code
Bosch Blue Tops (38lb/hr)
EDIS Ignition
Innovative LC-1 wideband

I'm currently running about 7lbs of boost. Once I install water/meth injection, I should be able to turn up the boost much more!

  • I looked at making something similar to CB's tail pipe, but don't have much room in my left hand fender well as that is where my oil filter, oil thermostat, and all my plumbing for the external system runs through. The larger turbo muffler was the best choice for noise suppression, so I decided to hang it like a phatboy type NA system and it blends in nicely.

  • No I didn't notice any power loss. The muffler is 2.5" all the way through the body, so its should have minimal flow restriction. Its VERY quiet.. I don't have a DB meter, so I don't know for sure. Its quieter than most NA VW's I've heard.

I looked at the CB 7254 tailpipe, but my concern was that they state its for low boost engines. Its only a 2" pipe, so I would be concerned that it may be restrictive after a certain point. Continued on next post...

  • My dream car. Great work!

  • Nice vid.

I wonder how many decibels that is. I may have to do the same thing once i install my new engine. (also CB hideaway).

Did you consider making something similar to CB part number 7254?

  • Nice car. im building something similar :-)

Did you notice much power loss from the muffler? Did it affect your turbo spool time?
