Spitting Spider (Skytode) Captures a Spider (Tegenaria)

While recording a Skytode that lived in my apartment, a Tegenaria appeared suddenly as it darted right into and by the Skytode. The Skytode captured the Tegenaria so fast, even though she was not even facing the Tegenaria that practically ran her over. She captured the Tegenaria by spitting web at it. Later in the video she gives the Tegenaria a number of fatal bites to kill it off before eating it. The Skytode has passed on. She died several days after laying about 10 to 15 eggs. She held the eggs with her pedipalps for several days until she died. My guess is when the babies are formed, they will possibly feed on her body, but I'm not sure of that yet. I have heard that there are species of spiders that die and the babies end up eating their mother's body.

Man that was so intense, you can see the fear in that other spider as it struggles so hard to escape the Skytode while she was biting it. Best spitting spider video I have ever seen, it was so amazing, and I'm glad you got home before this happen. At least you don't film cage matches like some people do, you got the real deal. I guess this was your reward for allowing certain spiders to roam in your apartment.

You were lucky to catch that on video! The Scytodes, although they seem fragile, are amazing predators. It's just incredible how fast that venomous silk is spit! I know for a fact that Yellow Sac spiderlings eat their mothers, but I've never heard of the Scytodes spiderlings doing that. It's definitely possible though. Anyways, it was one epic spider vid..I guess that's what you get when you bang into a Spitting Spider and almost knock her over..certain death! lol ;)
