This one is an 11x14 Oil Pastel drawing using Cray-Pas, Mungyo, and Loew Cornell oil pastels on Canson acid free paper #501 "Tobacco" color paper. This drawing was made from sketches made last summer around St. Augustine's marshlands off the intracoastal waterway south of the fort, and north of Matanzas. It was a nice change of pace from my other recent paintings. I use a technique that layers color on color, then smeared together... usually I would use a paper shading taper (tortillon) to smear it... but not having any right now, i had to use my "built-in" smear stick (my finger) LOL. It was fun to do a pastel again.

The music is one of my originals, named "Timuquana" in honor and respect for the indians who first settled this area. I used my home-made cedar acoustic guitar and multitrack recorded on my GNX4 then downloaded to my computer.

Hope you like it.
It was time-lapsed using a Sony TRV25 in INTERVAL mode (1/2 second every 30 seconds).

If you do like it, please leave me a comment, and/or rate it by clicking on a star. the feedback has been great in letting me know what you want to see, or know, things that I may be able to help with.

THANKS FOR WATCHING... KEEP PAINTING!

  • i am totally new to this pastel painting, question? is there an easier way than to use your finger my finger is literally on fire???

  • to promise169, Hobby Lobby - hobbylobby com - sells blending sticks made of rolled paper that work equally well without burning your finger.... I just did not have any on hand at the time I did this one. You can also use Q-tips, but they leave cotton hairs and fall apart quickly... Ladies sponge tipped blenders - Walmart cosmetic section - also work well but cost more per each. Hope this helps. Have fun with it... that's what makes it great! GG

  • what is difference between craypas expressionist and junior oil pastels?

  • @born2live ---- The junior (children's) oil pastels have less pigment in them (more filler), but the reviews are pretty good on Sukura brand (google "junior oil pastel review")

hope this helps, thanks for warching

  • If i have level 1 academic patels will my results be a lot less successful?

  • @IHeArTrOcK20 not necessarily.... you might have to press a little harder to get more color on the paper. Good luck with it... above all, have fun with it.. :-)

  • I just got the same pastel set and I am having a blast with it.

I got a 50 piece set... OH THE COLOURS!!

  • @Besaved42

colouring techniques are all in your head.(psychological) You learn this if you take art careers in high school, or an art introduction course. Most beginning artists have trouble filtering out all the pre-programmed shapes & colours your head easily remembers. To be a true artist is to master the art of observation. People can tell you what colours to use but you may not be able to apply that in another project, say, where the lighting is slightly different.

  • @born2live

the cheaper the pastel, the harder it is to mess up, it reacts a lot more like a crayon rather than a paint or charcoal, ie. good for practising colour&blending techniques but they are much harder to blend, unless you use an extender pastel before hand to add oil/flexibility.. cheap ones are the way to go if you are still a developing artist because you learn line, shaping, layering & blending techniques before you waste money on a good set. It isn't the pastel that makes the artist.

  • Starting of Drawing: I can do that, guess im not that bad of a drawer then i thought

A Little More: Well Mabye i can..

End: WHAT? how the f*** did its become so confusing...

  • I enjoyed the video, but was captivated by the music. Thanks.
