Grow a ton of your own lovely strawberries for eating, making smoothies, icecream or jam! This is a great way to save space! It's easy and cheap, so no excuses if you think you don't have the room!

  • the pellets I talked about in my original message was in reference to slug pellets which can be bought from any Gardend shop. The top of each pipe has a semi circle cut out which allows the pipe which goes across all 3 to sit in them without moving. I dug a 6 inch deep hole for each upright pipe to stand in. I pushed the earth down hard with the heel of my boot and they didn't move all of last year. I hope this helps and I'll answer any other questions if you need. Kind regards Annette

  • I can't remember the actual name of the original strawberries as I have been growing these for the last few years by simply taking the runners at the end of the season and growing them on (strawberry plants only usually last for about 3 years). There are 3 varieties though, early mid summer and late so I have strawberries right through the season. Sorry not to be more help than this but whatever you grow should be fine! Kind regards Annette

  • Thanks everyone for your great comments! I take the plants out of the tube at the end of summer and trim them down, just leaving a few of the runners and good leaves on. I then plant them in the ground somewhere out of the way to let the runners root. If the weather is mild I will leave them all winter. However, last year it froze so I dug them up and put them in the greenhouse.
