An information clip from May 2006 that shows an example of IBC data misuse. The misuse occurs constantly on tv news and in newspaper articles.

IBC's count is an undisputable baseline figure for solely Iraqi violent civilian deaths, many of which go unreported or uncorroborated. This number is a 'killed' figure.

Deaths, (not a killed figure), due to all other reasons that would not have ordinarily have occured, if it wasn't for the US led invasion, do not make this count. A child who died after drinking dirty water and contracting diarrhea for example does not make their count.

For their work, I thank IBC. For not correcting the media and for criticising sound scientific mortality studies, I don't!

"If you are not offending people who ought to be offended, you're doing something wrong." ~~ Noam Chomsky

"One indication that the Iraq Body Count (IBC) project is doing something wrong is that it is deemed, not merely inoffensive, but is eagerly embraced by people who really ought to be offended." ~~ http://www.medialens.org/alerts/06/060410_iraq_body_count.php

  • So you mean it's substantial higher then the IBC?

  • the US Government's "Numbers Game" doesn't just apply to Iraqi civilians, it also applies to US Soldiers.

Get this: If a soldier is wounded, then dies several weeks or months later later from those same injuries or complications arising from them, he is NOT counted in the Official Death Count.

The Official Death Count is only for soldiers who die from injuries received that same day.

    Isn't THAT clever?

(research it. I couldn't believe it myself)

I guess that's one of the reasons that Bush wants a private Army.

  • in other words, when the gi leaves the war theater thats when the *number game* begins. By the way civilians~ie contractors or goverment workers don't figure into the count neither...simply amazing!

  • my mistake - sorry wotdoesitmatter (great job)

  • It's always like that - it's a politics.

They won't say what is the real state of war - because if they say they won't get any money or support in their mission.

    great job spookytom (as usual)
