Fela Kuti is one of the most significant musicians to ever come out of Sub-Sharan Africa.

Through his music he confronted government corruption, multi-national corporations, and police brutality in Nigeria.

Only 14 when his father died, his son Seun has decided to carry on his legacy. Music of Resistance went to meet him.

  • who the fuck are u with a name like vcchapaev talking shit, evidently u dont know jack abt afrobeat and its origin, go educate ur self b4 embarassing ur self by makin silly comments

  • Vchapaev you never knew Fela so you are forgiven.

  • The first time I saw Fela in the flesh was at the Afrika shrine in 1986 or 87 . There I witnessed the unearthly phenomena of s a smallish man whose personality transformed him into a giant. When he turned to us the crowd and intoned the magic words "brothers and sisters" I was saved forever.

  • I kind of think the answers are in the documentary!!

  • @VChapaev

    SHUT UP.

THIS IS GREAT MUSIC RIGHT HERE.

  • All' music' are ethno-centric to some extent. When you think of hard-core pseudo-european ethnocentric musics, the beatles and beach boys come to mind. Your harsh critism of Seun Kuti stems from your inability to embrace anything that does not resemble what is familiar to you - hence, you will never comprehend others artistic values and messages.

  • I was fortunate to see Fela live in Kalakuta in 1994 with my father (god rest their souls). Fela and his entourage turned up at 3 am and blew my mind and changed my life. Steve Savale would have loved the similar vibe espoused by Seun, Remeber the Davidsons in1993 Steve before the HIA lol.

I visited Femi Kuti's shrine in 1998 and was very dissapointed by the commercial vibe surrounding it. Seun though appears to have recaptured the spirit of his father and his band. Oya Seun, oya Nigeria.
