  • I guess poly-stylist is a newer term - thought it meant that meander through various vocabularies within one piece, ala Schnittke's 'polystyle' period. But...

    Yup, Rzewski wrote what he wanted as he wanted it. I admire the hell out of artists who do so. Lukas Foss was another. It takes an omniscient curiosity (rare), and I think it a bit brave -- audiences, other consumers, and those who commission works are less likely to 'get' or want your 'next piece.'

  • Is Rzewski poly stylistic? the void in idiosyncrasy between this and his piano sonata is immense.
