  • @aed626 what kind of soap must be grated and melted?

  • 16 cups baking soda, 12 cups borax, 8 cups grated castile or glycerin soap flakes, 1 bottle of Lavender scented Purex Complete Crystals Softener, Mix all ingredients in large container and you have the best homemade laundry powder detergent in the world. Costs less than $15 and last almost a year for a family of four! (use 1/4 to 1/2 cup per load) ENJOY the savings and clean fresh smelling clothes at a fraction of the cost of store bought detergent.

  • @aed626 I have been using this method for months now,but this is the first comment i have seen that has anything negative to say about this. would you please send me a link so i can review the material to where it damages pvc? Also from most people I have seen do this recipe I myself included have had nothing but great results with it and all the eco people say it is better to use this also.but i am always interested in the pro's and cons,

  • @aed626 If you have a septic system you should revise having your washing machine run off running into it and have a separate place for your grey water from the wash.

  • Tired of grating your own soap? Get the suggested Borax, Soda and Soap flakes (that you don't have to grate) from this awesome eco-friendly family owned company: Google:

  • A better recipe is the one I use which is:

2 gallons Water (hot)1 bar Soap (grated)

2 cups Baking soda Melt grated soap in a saucepan with enough hot water to cover. Cook on medium-low heat, stirring frequently until soap is melted. In a large pail, pour 2 gallons hot water. Add melted soap, stir well. Then add the baking soda, stir well again.Use 1/2 cup for full load, 1 cup for very soiled loads

  • Borax will damage septic systems by killing good bacteria that break down waste products; the washing soda damages the leach field's PVC piping. It's a terrible recipe
