Willy McBean and His Magic Machine is a stop motion feature originally released in 1965. It was one of the few theatrical films made by Rankin-Bass, who are better know for their TV specials, including Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and The Year Without a Santa Claus.

This film was released on VHS in the US back in the early 90s, but has never been officially released on DVD, and remains largely forgotten today. The copy I own (which this file was ripped from) is a bootleg DVD that I bought out of sheer curiosity on eBay.

While this film isn't a favorite of mine, I know it has nostalgic appeal for some people, and it may be interesting for animation buffs to check out. Happy viewing!

  • Thank you SO MUCH for putting this up on YouTube!

This is the only animated Rankin-Bass movie that I haven't seen, and now I finally get the chance to!

    So thank you again!

  • Thanks very much for sharing this. I've been looking for it for about 15 minutes with no success. Glad to find it. :)

  • Saw this several years ago at a film fest and my VHS copy of it is one of my prize possessions. Von Rotten and his hilarious giggle is the BEST!

  • @NaiTaiDai Yep, the awesome Billie Mae Richards. She was in a number of Rankin/Bass productions.

This was one of the very few R/B films I had never seen, and I too am very grateful to have found it! Loved it so much I had to watch it several times over. :3

  • Thank you so much for this. One of my favorite childhood movies! I've literally been looking for this for 20 years.

  • @NaiTaiDai You are right Willy and Rudolph have the same voice actress

  • I think Willy has the same VA as Rudolph. Willy isn't even phased by the fact that Pablo's a talking monkey, is he?
