Here is Darryl Digarrnga (Dikarrnga) playing one of the best mago I've ever handled. Because of its high key, Darryl says it is best suited to a fast style of play, for example, Mimih Spirit. He plays this first, followed by Black Crow, and then provides the accompanying mouth sounds for Black Crow before playing it again, this time shot in side profile for those who want a better idea of lip placement, throat effects, breathing sequence etc.

The mago being used is quite an extraordinary instrument with to-die-for acoustics: rich, powerful, loud, and full-bodied. In nearly 20 years of researching and collecting didgeridoos, this is the mago that impresses me the most, both for its beauty and its sonic capabilities.

In construction it resembles David Blanasi's work though the instrument maker's name was not recorded at the time of collection. I love the high back pressure that allows this mago to sing with little effort, and the ochre artwork is equally impressive.

  • Darryl is referring to the parallel dimensional beings when he says spirit. I believe him 100%. Have had my own experiences with such beings. Not all of them are good and many like the reptilians are nasty.
