**NOTE: This clip is silent newsreel footage from 1926, so there is no audio to caption.**
For the first time on YouTube, the DCMP and the University of South Carolina Newsreel Library (www.sc.edu/library/newsfilm/) would like to present rare newsreel footage of Helen Keller meeting First Lady Grace Coolidge. Although no audio was recorded at the meeting, the visual content has been described for viewers who are blind or visually impaired. To learn more about description and captioning, visit the following websites: www.dcmp.org/description and www.dcmp.org/captions.
This is the first time I've ever seen Mrs. Coolidge in motion pictures. She apparently was a terrific First Lady, and was universally loved until her death in 1957.

She seems so outgoing, when her husband was such a reticent, though friendly, person.

Grace Coolidge was a warm, outgoing, sensitive and genuine person. She was extremely popular for just being herself. Interestingly, she had so much integrity that she was a bit hesitant to exploit her position to mount a large public fundraising campaign for the Clarke School during her tenure but did agree to do so towards the end of the Coolidge Administration, enlisting the President's name and support as well.

Mrs. Coolidge was trained as a lip reading instructor at the Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, Massachusetts, and served on the school's faculty. She retained a life long interest in the school.

Just curious why this wasn't captioned? We can see the actions, but things like the names are only accessible through auditory, not captions.
