http://www.SoundOps.com | In the car again talking about the importance of mastering on recording projects that are intended to sound under-produced. Independent bands are pumping out track after track of organic "trashy" sounding music - and we love it! But, it's still super important to have that kind of work mastered...because it should still be loud enough to compete in the market.

Whether it's your new demo, full-length CD, or songs you're gonna be sharing online, mastering will make the difference between your production sounding intentional and like an accident... listeners will give you the creative credit you deserve as an artist when it sounds confident and believable. ...get more cool stuff for your indie pursuit with studio tips and inside info on the music biz @ http://mastering.soundops.com

  • yea ok, compressing makes it better. it's whatever the artist made it to be regardless of what the producer says it should sound like fag

  • Thanks for your feedback, dude. You're right - music is of course about the artist; that's something we believe in, and why we developed multiMASTERING...

I may re-title that video "lo-fi CAN still be loud." Some guys just don't know that they can have the advantages of post-production without losing their under-produced sound.

By the way, if you ever need a hand making your recordings sound the way you want them to (after recording and mixing), let me know and I'll be glad to help.

  • Sure dude. I'll shoot you an email and we'll work out the details. Thanks for checking in and good luck out there!

  • To a degree it's good though but I think around the late 90's the average mastering got too loud and today most recordings are unlistenable to me.

  • Great videos. We're an independent band and we've embraced the lo-fi sound merely because thats all we can achieve out of our humble home studio with virtually no budget. Thanks & Keep up the great work

  • Makes sense.

    Benson and Tonic

  • You make a lot of sense and these videos are great.

Yeah, most indie bands will say "Hey man, I don't care, it's all about expression" and it is all about expression, but deep down the truth is that we want people to listen to our music (preferably, BUY IT) and we'd rather be making a comfortable living off of it than working part-time at Best Buy lol

  • I use pro tools for all my recording sessions, are there any must have plug-ins to add to a master fader to tweak the overall end result?

  • I totally agree with you. I'm am serious problems trying to get my tracks loud and attention grabbing right now. I wish there was a good service for under $100 though. $100 per track is a little much. I would much like to hear what you guys do (that I can't do) to my track before I start cashing in. Like a sample of some sort.
