Song Summoner, an RPG for the iPod from Square Enix. After playing Squeenix games on the PS2/DS/GBA/PSP, I decided to try this one out. Using a 5.5G iPod Video.

The game loads a lot. Some scenes and loading times were clipped for time constraints (notice the clock). This makes the video a bit more watchable, however. So don't expect this game to be fast in practice. Mind you, the unedited video is 20 minutes long. As I have done with the defend your castle videos, I won't show the whole thing.

With the LCD on, music playing, and almost constant hard drive access, the game causes a huge drain on the battery. So charge the iPod before playing or play with the USB cable.

Since there's no video out, it's amazing how the camera and iPod are stable (unlike other homemade videos using an iPod). Very little movement as far I can tell. The quality is pretty good. You can't see the reflection off the LCD screen. Almost looks like a direct capture.

Parts of the game remind me of Super Mario RPG, Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy X-2, FF Tactics, and SaGa Frontier.

  • i know its a stupid question but with this work on ipod nano 5gen ( the one with the video camera)

  • @FlamewaveLeader Yes, the clickwheel version of Song Summoner will work on a 5th generation iPod nano.

  • i got the game yesterday for my 5g ipod nano and i just want to know why it drains the battery so fast

  • The LCD backlight is the biggest power draw for the most part. Lowering the brightness helps. I get about 3 - 4 hours on my 4G nano.

  • would this work on a 1gb nano?

  • No, 1st and 2nd generation iPod Nanos will not work.

  • @TheGunslinger019

ok, so you go to the apps section. dont click it, just put your mouse over it. at the end, it willsay ipod clickwheel games. click on it. There they are.

  • THAT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG D:

  • @TheGunslinger019 They probably discontinued it since no one buys games for ipod click wheels and since there is iphone and itouch there isn't much profit/deman from people like us :/ There are other ways in getting the game through downloading it but... i haven't got it to work and kinda stopped trying.. i guess sticking with ur handheld and using the ipod for music is probably just the way to go huh?

  • @alexdudes007 I have the same problem in fact i can't find any click wheel game for ipods only ipod touch and iphone... I think it has something to do with my country. Have you found it eventually? If yes how?

  • @FinalFantasyAerith HA HA HA...

  • I am having a problem finding the game on itunes... All that it shows is the iphone and itouch version of the game. I also found the link of the ipod click wheel game but when i click to buy the game the iTunes store thing pops up and says its trying to connect to iTunes..but never does.. i think they removed the game from itunes store... help?
