Conquistadors - The fall of the Aztecs Part 4 (Spanish CC)

In the decade before the Spanish arrived in Mexico, Aztec Emperor Montezuma II and his people were filled with a sense of foreboding. A series of evil omens had foretold of calamities to come. A fiery comet crossed the sky. The temple of Huitzilopochtli, the god of war, burst into flames. The Lake of Mexico boiled and rose, flooding into houses. A weeping woman passed by in the middle of the night, crying "My children, we must flee far away from this city!" Fishermen discovered a bird that wore a strange mirror in the crown of its head. Montezuma looked into the mirror and saw a distant plain, with people making war against each other and riding on the backs of animals resembling deer.

An agitated Montezuma demanded that his soothsayers explain the meaning of these dire signs and was told that they prophesied the destruction of his kingdom. In fact, Montezuma had reason to be fearful - the Spanish had settled in Hispaniola and Cuba and were making their way toward his empire.

The Spanish had made several expeditions to the nearby Yucatan in 1517 and had returned with wonderous tales of a high-cultured Mayan civilization and gold riches. The news of these discoveries made an electrifying impression on the Spanish colonists in Cuba. Among these was Hernán Cortés, Chief Magistrate of Santiago. The Spanish governor of Cuba, Diego de Velásquez, told Cortés that he would provide two or three ships if Cortés would find the rest of the money, and lead the army. Cortés agreed and on October 23, 1518, Velásquez appointed him "captain-general" of a new expedition to the Yucatan.

  • "For the Christians, God gave his blood to redeem mankind. For the Aztecs, makind must give its blood to redeem the gods."

    BEST. LINE. EVER.

  • I love this history. Hispanic history in my opinion is second best to oriental history. I love it.

Also. Why do you refer to the Republicans as the Spanish people as a whole? When it was the nationalists who had the biggest support in Spain? Hence why they had superior man power. "true history" Says the guy who says world war 2 started in 1936 rofl. It was Spanish troops fighting Spanish troops each with different equipment from other countries. You really no nothing about YOUR OWN history, do you? Never mind world history.

  • @hdp26

The Spanish civil war was NOT the beginning of the second world war. That is the silliest and most arrogant thing I've ever heard. The nationalists won the Spanish civil war. The nationalists had much larger support than the Republicans. You didn't fight Germany, Italy and Portugal. You fought each other. "all alone" You were backed by many democratic countries including France. The Republicans were hardly "alone".

  • @spudnick3490 2nd world war started on spain, with our civil war, we fought the nazis and the fascists all alone during 3 years of war, that takes cojones, 3 years of civil resistane against 3 different military machineries, read yourself a litle bit more about anything, international brigades, whatever just read some true history before opening your dirty little mouth, dog.

  • @hdp26

Oh and don't forget that we fought in the rest of the world aswell. We fought the Italians and Germans in Africa, fought the Japanese in Burma, Australia, Singapore and helped Chinese troops fighting the Japanese. And you would call that "indirect"? I also find it amusing coming from a Spaniard since your country wasn't even in the war.

Now please. Read a book on history, since you clearly have no idea.

  • @hdp26

"didn't took part in 2nd world war from the begining" I'm sorry what? Do you know history at all? Britain declared war on Germany when Germany invaded Poland. That started World War 2. Britain was in the war and survived it throughout the entire war.

"never confronted a nation directly" I wouldn't say fighting Germany constantly in the air and sea is "indirect". We also were the biggest contributor to the invasion of France and helped resistance movements all over Europe.

  • @hdp26

"mahoma" Do you have a brain at all? It's "Muhammad".

"of a fag tudor, " Is that the height of your vocabulary? "Fag"? You are an idiot. And no. We didn't change religion because of "a fag tudor". We changed it because of the growing number of Protestants in England.

  • @spudnick3490 Theres an ocean of difference between brave people that stand up for something and sacrifice and the crawling mags that take no position and wait some where beyond shame and degeneration for the wind to blow. That's why you didn't took part in 2nd world war from the begining, and never confronted a nation directly, and just waited like the scum u are. Your biggest achievement is that you live on a shitty land where nobody ever had the minimal interest.

  • @spudnick3490 well a britard a-hole.. you will be speaking arab and praying to mahoma if it weren't for us, otoman empire would have reached austria then you, i take no directions from a nation who change their religion just because of a fag tudor, some sucker islands profiting of scavenge on others nation wars, backstabers and pirates, with no moral ground, biggest enslavers, hipocrites and cretines in history.

Genocide was never committed by the British in North America or anywhere in the Americas. The genocides were committed by the Americans in the 19th century.

"look down on south america, indian blood is strong," What? You mean the population of Latinos who are just products of the Spanish rape of natives? Your country has done nothing good for the world. Ever wondered why South American countries are poor? Because Spain destroyed EVERYTHING.
