This Summary is an introduction to the 5 part 188 slide PowerPoint Presentation and YouTube video of our Fishing Trip from June 22, 2002 to June 30, 2002 to Kodiak and Whale Islands, Alaska where we fished Red Sockey Salmon on Kodiak Island and Halibut, Cod and other fishes in the deep waters off Kodiak and Whale Islands.

On June 22, 2002, I left for a Fishing Trip to Kodiak Island, and Whale Island, Alaska from
Los Angele Airport, California with my son Helmuth and grandson Devon 9 years old. We returned to Los Angeles on July 30, 2002.

We flew for about 5 ½ hours from Los Angeles, California to Anchorage, Alaska on Alaska

Airlines. From Anchorage we flew for about one hour to Kodiak, Kodiak Island, Alaska with ERA Airline on a 37-seat De Havilland two engine, high wing, propeller driven aircraft.

At Kodiak Airport we chartered a Piper six-seater single engine plane to fly to Port Lion's, Kodiak Island, Alaska. Terry the pilot gave us ear plugs as the racket from the engine was deafening. Terry flew low over beautiful scenery, snow capped mountains and the Gulf of Alaska waters and landed on the tiny airstrip outside Port Lion's, Kodiak Island, Alaska.

Denise May, the wife of our Guide and Boat Captain Bob May, and their fourteen year old son Arthur, met us at the airstrip and drove us to Camai House in Port Lion's located in beautiful natural surroundings.

In Port Lion's it remained daylight until about 12 midnight and sometimes until 3 AM. Odd enough it was not consistent but varied from day to day.

The trip brightened my days and nights for a small moment in time that I will always remember. It was a wonderful trip despite the inclemental weather, rain, rough seas and cold. The marvelous hooded waterproof long jacket that my daughter Serena and son-in-law Gary gave me worked exceptionally well. The only time I really got wet was when I slipped on some slimy rocks next to the waterfall in the Red Sockey Salmon Fishing Hole, Port Lion's, Alaska. That water was cold.

We did see quite a few large Whales at sea blowing out water; Seals and Sea Otters, American Bald Eagles which seem to be plentiful on Kodiak Island and Sea Eagles.

My son Helmuth caught a 250 pound Halibut and an 80 pound Halibut in about 280 feet of water. The 250 pound Halibut had to be towed to Whale Island and pulled onto the beach by block and tackle. There is no limit on Halibut or Cod.

My grandson Devon caught several 20 pound Halibut which we had to throw back in as they were too small.

We also caught, Pacific Cod, trout and other kinds of fish.

The weather was inclemental part of the time on Alaska's Kodiak Island and its archipelago

of islands between which we fished. Part of the week it was pouring rain and cold and a rough sea. One day we had 5 foot swells but caught plenty of fish.

The inclemental weather did not deter us from bringing home over 300 pounds of Halibut, Cod and Salmon fish fillets frozen solid for us by Bob May
