so, focus a bunch of mirrors to the same point, and achieve a greater heating effect. This is really very interesting, I really like all the vids.

1:52 you can see the focal point as the smoke from the wood goes through it

Melting is the way to go I used a small starter hole then used the tappered drill bit from harborfreight going backwards to go to 1/2 inch then found a tappered brass hose nozzle that took it to 3/4 then tapped it with the 3/4 pipe on the theads $12.00

Dan, where can I get a paraboic mirror like the one in this video? I wanna experiment with these but have no clue where to find them...thanks

I saw a tripod just like that at a yard sale this weekend for $3. Didn't get it bc it was too heavy but for this application you would welcome additional weight. You get a large enough mirror and you can fry with it.

Don't drill plastic. melt through it with a soldering iron. The extruded plastic become a reinforcing ring around the hole. Also, it has basic shock absorbton properties becasue usually the melted platic ring will have air bubbles in it.
Never drill plastic unless you have no other choice.
Ever using a steel cooking skewer heat with a lighter is better that a drill bit which can grab the plastic and tear the hole instead of cutting.

Pretty neat!

Dan, where to get the 17 inch and can they boil water and cook a meal alone just by just aiming it at a pot of water to cook anything or purifty water by boiling it

Hi,
I have some on our website. They can cook on a 6" skillet and can boil 12 oz in 5-7 minutes. 8 oz is faster, about 3 minutes in a dark glass container. In a cat iron skillet small one about 20% faster.

Ok - dumb question time. When you pull the stick back there is something showing in the smoke that looks like a (sorry not a scientist) prism? Wrong word I am sure but it appears you can see the focal point - and then the light triangulates out from the focal point? Am I close? Or do I need glasses?
