The Bhagavad-Gita (the 'song of God') was spoken by Sri Krishna 5000 years ago on the battlefield at Kurukshetra. At that time, the Kuru dynasty was at war, fighting for all the lands in the world. This land was deceitfully stolen by Duryodhana from the five Pandava brothers. Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead playing the part of an ordinary human, acted as charioteer for Arjuna, the third Pandava son. When Arjuna saw his family members, cousins, uncles, etc. about to fight against him, he became bewildered. Falling before Lord Krishna, he asked for instruction. The instruction given by Sri Krishna is the essence of life, the Bhagavad-Gita. Krishna's essential instructions were that we are not this body, we are each an eternal spirit soul; and, that in order to obtain true happiness bereft of illusion, we should surrender unto Krishna.

The text of the Bhagavad-Gita is part of the epic Indian poem the 'Mahabharata.' Although there are many translations, the song in this video was inspired by "Bhagavad-Gita As It Is" written by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

  • @foryatharthgeeta Thank you for the invitation. But I personally read the Bhagavad Gita commentaries written by my spiritual teachers, namely Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami whose commentary is known as "Bhagavad Gita As It Is", and also the Srimad Bhagavad Gita by Srila Narayana Goswami Maharaja. These commentaries of full of true understanding of Krishna, and they explain things simply but with great moods.
