Harlem Indian interviews another Indian about the issue of enrollment. Don Hatch is a Tulalip Tribal member and a long former councilman of the Tulalip Tribe and on the Marysville School board for many years. He started up and was the Director of the Tulalip Boy's & Girls Club for many years also. He really is an American Indian who believes in the virtues of our Native communities.

  • Good man, I love what you're saying!

  • @jcalderon1966 ,Yeah, thats sad,but if they marry non natives the grand kids should not be eligible for enrollment, were'nt they educated on them points?

  • Wow its really nice of you to take the time to share your thoughts on this issue in such a public venue. I wasn't aware it was an issue in that many tribes. Myself I am 1/4 Cherokee, 1/16 Lenape & unknown percentage Creek and Choctaw yet am labeled as white because I was not born on the reservation. It's a slap in the face people when real NDNs are not accepted by tribe. Not everyone wants to join in order to get healthcare or checks. If only there was a blood test to prove identity.

  • @boloco12 Yup....

  • it's all a bunch of political speech as far as I am concerned.. and we do get slammed even though we are enrolled.. the victim becomes the victimizer?? interesting.. not trying to be a negative nigel, but I know from first hand experience, the rez is ran by ugly lateral violence, and it's overlooked, and the most poverty strucken shout it out, but because they are poverty ridden, they are ignored, people turn their heads the other way.. I call it population controll.. even to this day!! 2010..

  • well, the enrollment issue was NEVER figured out and it's 2010.. I have relatives that are not enrolled, they are FORGOTTEN.. and can prove their residency, and it starts will prejudice enrollment commitee members.. IMAGINE THAT!!! within our own tribe.. I know woman who is enrolled she is 4 Kids, and only 2 of them are enrolled, the other two are not, and currently are barely covered for medical issues, is that OUR WAY?? no it's not.. its atrocity!!!!

  • I've been trying to get enrolled in the Tulalip Tribes since I was 18 and can't because my Mom was enrolled Yakima at the time of my birth but yet I was raised out on that reservation, and my Mom is a full blood

  • What about the ALLOTTEES and DISENROLLED Indians that still live on the Rez? It's not about "town" Native American's but many Reservation Indians that have had ALL their Rights as Native American's stripped from them. Health Care, Tribal Schools, Voting Rights, Educational Assistance. Good point the BIA wants nothing to do with this problem, everyone passes it off onto someone else.

  • This is a huge problem with all of the various nations, the worst part is you can be fullblood but not enrolled and therefor not respected even by other indians. Especially big issue on the east coast where people think indians are extinct!

  • Good words Don!!!! You always have good words, especially when you we're speaking at my mother Pearl Conlow's funeral 10-20-08 in La Push. You know it makes people feel good when people show their love and support for other natives. My mother told me before, that she had to tell another elder on the rez, be careful when you votes for blood quantums becuz most of your grandkids will not be eligible becuz they are marrying non-natives. Yeah, its sad when natives get denied their tribe.
