Opening Credits Motion Project for AVT 419 Motion Graphics at George Mason University

Our project was to pick a book we have read recently and create the opening credits as if it were adapted into a movie. I picked H.G. Well's The Time Machine, and even though it has already been adapted into a film I decided to redo its credits. If you have ever read the book, you know that you never see the main character actually build the machine, so I decided to use the credits as an opportunity to show you the machine being developed from its initial idea: the idea of time as a space.

I hope you enjoy it!

Technical stuff:
I created the credits in Adobe After Effects CS5, and also used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for the images

The music is Warriors & Knights by Pierre Langer and Scott P Schreer which I found on www.freeplaymusic.com

Graphics for the time machine were created by looking at the original machine as designed by Wah Ming Chang for the 1960 film adaptation:

These are the tutorials I used to create the opening frames:

This is the tutorial for how to have the formulas turn into the letters:

The writing and drawing effects were done using the Write On effect in After Effects

If you have any other questions, feel free to get in touch and I will do my best to answer them :)

  • Pretty good! :) The part at 0:47 looks like you got bored of doing all the animation, and the equations at the beginning seem a bit random as only one or two letters come from each!
