hook worm on my gold fish

I had the 2 gold fish for almost 3 when My daughter and bf won them at a fair... The other day I bought this white fantail gold fish and a week later i notce one red blotch though maybe he was bleeding.. well today I notice lot more plus my gold fish has it now ): im sooo upset and will be if they die.. Im treating them now for hookworm so hopefully it will go away once it gone i post all better now pic (:.. oh Ps not sure if you can tell by looking but me and phil argued bout how big my tank is I bought it as a 40 gallon at a yard sale he is claiming that it is 30 gallon.. its important info so i know how much mediction to give (:

That is not a hookworm but an 'Anchor worm,' not worm but a type of crustacean (Lernaea sp.). I hope the problem is rid off by now. Otherwise, just pick up the fish, remove the 'worm' (or dab a little 10 % formalin at the site ). Transfer all fish to another clean tank and dry up this tank (or add 10 % formlain and hold for an hour...clean again before use) . In future, it would pay to place your NEW fish in a smaller quarantine tank for a few days before introducing it into the main tank.
