Milking seems to be an every morning routine for Akara Ti-ti-tha-vorn, a local goat farmer in Phukets Thalang district.
After that he leads his herd out and lets them enjoy freedom in the grass field. His farm is designated by the local authority to be a learning centre for other goat farmers as it is a comprehensive organic farm which also successfully applies HM the King of Thailands self sufficiency or sustainable economy principle. Dairy goats at Akaras farm are of mixed local and foreign breeds. They are from Switzerland and the Chinese Laoshan. Akkara said he spent three years before he got the satisfied outcome of mixed breeds which are strong and suit the countrys southern region climate. More importantly, they produce good qualities and quantities of milk. He said I insist that they adjust very well to the local environment with good immunity. They are also as productive as those foreign breeds.
Twenty to thirty litres of goat milk go through his small factory pasteurizing everyday. It is certified by the Food and Drug Administration under the Ministry of Public Health. It then serves the market under the brand Pru Jampa goat milk, a 100% goat milk. Akara emphasizes on quality not quantity each day. Applying self sufficiency economy principle, Akara said he emphasizes on making the best use of resources around him. His goats are free range in the open field while their drops are used as manure to food crops and grass. Many other vegetables and fruits are also grown as by- products in his farm.
He said For me I insist and have proved that His Majesty the Kings principle of sufficiency economy works very well. Agriculturalists can stand on their own with dignity and great immunity. Try it.
