You can tell that it's being done for the express purposes of being recorded, and that he wasn't used to something like that. He doesn't have anyone in the room to really play to, and it shows. He's not used to having stay in a particular area to do his work. He'd ordinarily be all over that stage playing to everybody in the building, instead of that audience of one that is a camera in 1923.

the well known movie actor Dana Andrews tells an amusing story that Jack Warner was so impressed by Eddy Cantor in Roman Holiday that he was keen that other movies looked like Roman Holiday which Andrews said was absurd ? Nonetheless Eddy Cantor was a popular entertainer with his distinctive style playing at The Palace Theatre in the Jolson era and appearing in successful movies such as Roman Holiday Show Business Making Whoopee also appear in Zigfield Follies and much else ?

Actually yes. There is plenty of video of Cantor entertaining that allows us to know what his stage behavior was like. It is unlikely that he was more energetic at 60 than he was at 30. In addition there is first person recollections of Cantor. You do realize that Ken Burns didn't serve during the Civil War? That Carl Sandberg didn't personally know Lincoln? That David McCullough never actually spoke with John Adams?

actually no because recordings in live theater was not possible back then so there would not be any video archive of his performances.

Your comment is rather ignorant. There are people who collect and study old film and entertainers. Whether Joeker02 is one of them or not, he wouldn't have had to have been there to know how Cantor usually behaved on stage.

The ability to record sound existed before the ability to record moving pictures. Prior to the late 20's however it was a huge pain to sync the audio and the visual.

Tha movie made sound film wide spread and more or less cheap. There were even sound recordings from the 1900s, but the thing is sound had to be manualy synchronized

Count me in with the Boardwalk Empire crowd. I've heard the name Eddie Cantor before but I had no idea of the significance of his name. You should be grateful that younger people pick up on this.
