Al Caiola was a 1960s specialist in the "big guitar" sound like Duane Eddy. He did a lot of TV and movie themes with exciting orchestra. These four selections are almost too much.

1) High Chaparral - This 1968 TV series theme, composed by David Rose, was included on Caiola's LP "It Must Be Him".
2) Autumn In Cheyenne - 1961 single backed with Speak Low
3) The Scalphunters - 1968 movie theme, written by Elmer Bernstein, like The Magnificent Seven
4) Ring Of Fire - The Johnny Cash song. Another exciting arrangement. Duane Eddy had an instrumental around that time with exactly the same title, but it was a completely different song. The labels here make the mistake of crediting this composition to Eddy. This was written by Merle Kilgore, like Wolverton Mountain and He Understands Me.

There is a Caiola import CD collection titled Bonanza available now at Amazon.
He also tinkered with jazz-pop, and did all kinds of international music. He's ethnically Italian, and still around. Don't know if he ever does live performances.

  • Al Caiola transformed this TV theme into one incredible sonic orgasm that takes you out, away, back to a long ago forgotten time (the Wild West or maybe just the 1960s when they wrote original songs for TV shows) if you sit back with headphones u can go all the way back ... to the "High Chapparel" ... unforgettable twangy masterpiece !
