Imagine your children, your students, having philosophical discussions. This video includes interviews with students in grades 2 through 5. Philosophical inquiry is an effective way to exercise student's abilities to reason, communicate, and think creatively. Plus it's fun!

  • I'm currently writing a research dissertation on P4C supporting disengaged pupils at elementary level (UK). I'll let you know how it goes.

  • That's outstanding! Yes please, do let me know how it goes. I'd love to talk to you further about it.

  • I agree. Very well done.

I was in "gifted" classes as a kid and we still weren't asked to express ourselves like this. Kids will always surprise you if you give them the opportunity.

  • Thanks!

If you make that opportunity a regular one, they will also grow in wondrous ways.

  • This was really well done. I too am jealous I didn't have this program as a kid. It's nice to know that these kids are engaging in intelligent conversations at such a young age. It will probably help them to communicate much better as adults.

    Keep up the good work.

P.S. Good music in the background. It was really well done.

  • Thanks! (It looks fun, doesn't it?)

  • I wish i had this when i was young

  • When I met the philosopher of education Nel Noddings a couple of years ago, she told me (and I'm paraphrasing here) that we have to care for and nurture younger generations through philosophical inquiry so that they will become strong, informed citizens focused on the betterment of our state, ourselves and our world. I agree and believe that the foundation of this should start in grade school.

Thanks Daniel and everyone else who works tirelessly in order to help these children.

  • Although I won't be delving too much into Freirean pedagogue, I still find that area of education very interesting. My philosophy and education module has been mainly looking at education as empowerment and dialogic education. Dialogic education is especially insighful - have you heard of Wegerif?

  • Me too. I want to work to get philosophy for children into schools nationwide.
