Driving a 7000 mile circle across the United States for the last week of June, 2004, Brian Florence and Peter Blackbird of Deadmalls.com stopped in a couple places to catch the local dead mall scene.

This stop takes us to Birmingham, Alabama, and the soon to be demised Eastwood Mall. A Walmart Supercenter now graces this spot's presence. Across the street, Century Plaza is now dying.

This is exclusive video never-before-seen elsewhere. Clips of this video are featured in the documentary film "Malls R Us", which showcases Deadmalls.com and our cause.

  • @aronos I appreciate your point of view, but I have different take. I think it's that no one will call things the way they are, and we just tolerate SAVAGE GANG MEMBERS and such who loiter around the malls and scare off the business. So, we go BACK to the 50s and build open malls to discourage loitering but we CIVILIZED people then have to deal with inclimate weather and such JUST because no one can deal with the flotsam? I wish we'd just MAN UP and regain control of society!

  • The economy has flatlined...we're done.

  • Shit that is an dead mall. Was that the Food Court on 2:45 of this video? So how did the site Deadmalls come to be?

  • 2:47 was a food court built as part of a revitalization around 1992, 1993 and the exact same model was used for revitalizing McFarland Mall in Tuscaloosa. That one will soon be demolished and completely replaced.

  • now you can add dead florida aerospace business

  • great video...the mall is no longer standing...a Super WalMart is in it's place. So sad to see the first mall in the south go...
