Why? What is happening when you try?

Do you have a small hand with short 3 inch thick sausage-like fingers? Are you missing two fingers?

Try a classical nylon strung guitar.

I felt the need to make a comment here. I'm a professional musician who tunes by ear, but to get to E you have to have a place to start. Thank you for putting this on here so I can have a quick reference to proper tuning. Kudos.
